Tallahassee-Leon Federal Credit Union Receives "Biz Kid$" National Grant

Grant Allows For Expansion of Mini Billionaire Academy Summer Camp

Tallahassee, FL – Tallahassee-Leon Federal Credit Union is entering its third year of hosting their Mini Billionaire Academy, an overnight camp that has taught area youth the basics of financial literacy in a fun and innovate manner. This year, TLFCU is receiving support from a Biz Kid$ Financial Education Grant to further the expansion of the Mini Billionaire Academy.

Biz Kid$ is a program on PBS Kids produced by the same Emmy award winning team that brought the public Bill Nye The Science Guy. The show teaches children, tweens and teenagers about fiscal responsibility. Episodes are actively used in classrooms across the country, along with the official Biz Kid$ website, bizkids.com.

“The Biz Kid$ grant is allowing us to expand the age group of children the camp will be able to take in,” said Lisa Brown, CEO/President of TLFCU. “The camp will be open to children ages 8 – 16. We’re also excited to announce that we’ll be able to offer some campers partial and full scholarships to reduce the camp’s cost.”

Grant recipients were selected based on use of Biz Kid$ materials, level of innovation and engagement in developed student activities, and execution of a creative financial education curriculum.

This exclusive grant was only granted to a few recipients. TLFCU was chosen for the grant out of thousands of entries nationally.

This year’s Mini Billionaire Academy will be hosted at Wallwood Reservation on Lake Talquin from Sunday, June 29th through Thursday, July 3rd. Camp participants must be between 8 and 16. Participants can register for $200 if they are a Youth Account Member at TLFCU, or for $250 if they are a non-member. Scholarship information and camp applications can be found by registering online at tlfcu.org. Further questions and additional information on the Mini Billionaire Academy or membership at TLFCU can be directed to Mike Akers, Vice President of Sales and Service, by calling (850) 576-8134 Ext. 107 or emailing mikea@tlfcu.org.
